About Maine Gun Safety Coalition
Maine Gun Safety Coalition is a grassroots organization founded in 2000 to protect Maine families and communities from gun violence. Our mission is to save lives through education, research, and legislative advocacy.

We educate parents, health care providers, law enforcement, and the public about preventing domestic violence and suicides. We produce reports about gun violence trends in Maine and provide free trigger locks to prevent unintentional shootings and firearm theft. We advocate for evidence-based policies by initiating legislation, convening stakeholders, and electing candidates who support common sense gun laws.

About the Fitzgerald Dinner
The annual Fitzgerald award dinner recognizes public figures who help advance our mission of improving gun laws in Maine. Past honorees include Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, US Senator Susan Collins, Sherriff and Sen. Mark Dion, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Margaret Groban.

The award is named for the late Buzz Fitzgerald, who cofounded the Maine Gun Safety Coalition with Congresswoman Chellie Pingree and attorney William Harwood following the Columbine High School Massacre in 1999. The Fitzgerald dinner supports our legislative initiatives, education programs, and the Free Trigger Locks program.
