In a first, firearms were leading cause of death for U.S. children and teens in 2020

"Guns became the leading cause of death among children and teens in 2020, killing more people ages 1 to 19 in the U.S. than vehicle crashes, drugs overdoses or cancer."
"More than 4,300 died of firearm-related injuries that year — a 29 percent increase from 2019 — according to a research letter published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine. The letter analyzed decades of mortality data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

A reminder: This is a choice. We don't have to live this way.

One way to reduce the number of child-involved firearm deaths is to safely secure all guns. Ethan's Law, HR 748, currently pending in Congress would do just that.

And so we as Mainers once again ask Jared Golden for Congress, to please join with the 214 of your fellow members of Congress, from both parties, to publicly support Ethan's Law, HR 748, which will protect kids from unsecured, loaded firearms. The bill only needs ONE more vote of support to ensure its passage in the House.

Ethan's Law is nearly identical to Maine’s recently-enacted firearm safe storage law will save the lives of American children by ensuring they don’t have access to unsecured, loaded firearms.

If you can, please visit one of Rep. Golden's offices in Maine, listed below, so his staff knows that Mainers want him to support Ethan's Law.

If you can't visit, give his office a call.
